EMS Pilot and Guidance Aviation Graduate – This Could Be You

Last week we were celebrating the new career start of Wes Carter who is now flying a Channel 4 News helicopter. That’s a sweet job! Today, one of our graduates visited us in his shiny Bell aircraft. This time, it is an EMS (emergency medical services) helicopter flown by our own CJ Schnieder III. CJ, a graduate of Guidance Avation and former flight instructor, landed a job flying for Air Evac Lifeteam.

CJ and Wes earned their Associate of Applied Science Degrees in aviation while attending the collegiate partner programs of Guidance Aviation. They became professional helicopter pilots and earned their college degrees within two years.

EMS Helicopter Pilot

Below, CJ discusses what it takes to be an EMS pilot and being a part of a life saving team of heroes…

Being a Helicopter EMS pilot is far from a one man task. You have to be able to work with a team or you will simply not survive long enough to save any lives.

My self, my nurse and medic, we all have to rely on each other to get home safe at the end of the day. We never know what kind of call we will be responding to or where it will be and there is no room for prejudice in this job. We are professionals at what we do and we all take turns being the leader at different points on every flight. Our job is to save as many people as we can with a combined effort but it’s also to get everyone home at the end of the day as well – that’s the most important aspect of it all! It’s a lot more then just being a pilot and wiggling controls!
